Are you holding yourself back because you think you’re not ready?
I have a question for you today:
Are you holding yourself back because you think you’re not ready?
I can understand why you may think you’re not ready.
✓ There are always more courses to take.
✓ There are always more exams to pass.
✓ There’s always stuff you don’t yet know.
SPOILER ALERT - a lot of this stuff you will never need to know but we can look at that later!
So you have an idea of something you want to do - something you want to achieve.
To be.
To have.
To enjoy doing, being, and having.
Then self-doubt kicks in.
Any of this sound familiar? Read on!
You start going through the list of things you think you need to do and you start adding a-a-a-ll the things that will prevent you getting where you want to be!
😖 I haven’t enough money.
😖 I haven’t enough time.
😖 I don’t have the support.
😖 I haven’t passed the exams …
😖 I’m simply not good enough.
And then you put your idea to bed again for another few months till it tries to pop its head up into your busy life and you get that feeling again, that yearning, that this is really what you want to do.
So why do we do this?
Why do we keep squashing our great idea, finding as many reasons as possible NOT to pursue it?
The reason we put ourselves down and say we’re not ready?
It’s FEAR.
Plain ole tail-wetting FEAR.
The reason for inaction is always FEAR.
So let’s have a look at what you’re afraid of! Probably, it’s one or more of these things:
😔 I’ll fail and feel stupid.
😔 I’ll work my fingers to the bone and earn no money
😔 I’ll lose everything I have, and end up sleeping under a bridge
😔 My friends and family will all point and laugh.
😔 I’ll be sad, miserable, and lonely …
Yeah!
You can see that that’s a load of catastrophising that has very little to do with reality!
It’s our primitive brain trying to keep us safe. Keep us in the cave where we’re alright, stop us going out into the wild to get attacked by mammoths and sabre-toothed tigers.
Hmm… And just how realistic is that?
The thing is, nothing happens without you taking a risk.
If you want to move from where you are now where you know it’s safe - even if you feel totally unfulfilled and know that you’re denying your destiny - If you want to move on you have to take RISKS. And this is what you’re afraid of.
Do you see that? That one of the reasons you’re staying stuck is a fear of taking a risk?
The fact is - as I will show you! - that you ARE ready, really, and all you have to do is
Do what you can with what you have from where you are
I could say, I would like to be a Cordon bleu chef but - I’ve never worked in a commercial kitchen; I’ve never been to catering school; I can barely boil an egg - but it’s got to be easy, right?
I said:
All you have to do is Do what you can with what you have from where you are and that’s what I want to focus on today.
You have to start somewhere! And not starting anywhere because of all those named and unnamed fears we talked about earlier is not going to cut the mustard!
Until you actually START you won’t truly know
What you need
What you don’t have
What you don’t know.
Are you getting this?
It’s only once you’ve begun that you see the gaps and learn how to fill them, and that’s done by starting FROM WHERE YOU ARE!
Don’t know how to do it? DO WHAT YOU CAN!
Haven’t got everything in place? START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE!
We’ve all got SOMETHING, and the most important thing we have is the DESIRE - the desire to start serving the world in this new way. If that desire is burning in your heart, then get started today! Don’t wait another moment to light up the world!
Start from where you are with what you have and do what you can!
Is this what you’re going to do? Cast aside those fears and begin?
Now I’m not suggesting you stumble blindly about not knowing what you’re doing! But there are so many people who’ve already done much of what you want to achieve. Yes - you will bring your own individual personality to it, but a lot of it is already available to you.
No need to re-invent the wheel!
Is this what you’re looking for? Don’t wait a moment longer …
