Others may want to keep you where you are …
Are you all set to get moving, on that new life you’ve dreamed of?
Trouble is, you mention your plans to friends and family and they universally say, “Oh no! That won’t work.”
You are crushed and crestfallen.
You may be fortunate and have someone who will back you to the hilt, however crazy your idea may seem! But for many of us we’re more likely to get the response above.
Why?
Why do your friends not want you to power forward in your chosen career, relationship, where you want to live?
Do they not want you to succeed?
Well, in a way, no. They don’t want you to.
Because that means you may change. And your change may show up the fact that they have not changed - are stuck … just where you were!
They are not being unkind at all. They are simply afraid! They’re afraid that you rocking the boat will cause their boat to sink.
The amazing Jim Rohn said,
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
Whether it’s average income, average weight and fitness, average activities and interests, average aspirations or average acceptance, we all like to fit in. And fitting in with your friends just may be the thing that’s stopping you achieving what you really want in life!
Now, I’m not telling you to abandon your family and ditch your friends! But what you can do is seek out new people whose life vision aligns more with your own. You’re reading this, so you’re already searching.
Such people can introduce you to a new way of looking at the world, a new assessment of the opportunities there for you - and a path to get there!
Once you’ve hoisted yourself up by your bootstraps, you’ll be able to reach out to your friends and help them up too.
