Satisfaction is worth $$$ and £££
What’s the most rewarding thing about having your own business?
It could be a number of things -
❤️ freedom to work where you want when you want
❤️ freedom to choose who you work with
❤️ the ability to manage your own income
But for me, the overriding reward is in being able to earn my living while helping others!
This applies to any line of work. But if your chosen business is working with dogs and their owners, there’s a high chance that you went into it because of your desire to improve the life of dogs, and you can’t do that without going through their owners - which you may find harder than communicating with their dogs!
And there’s a high chance also, that “running a business” was not top of your list of priorities when you set out on this path. ;-)
It came as a by-product of doing the work you love.
Burnout
So it may not surprise you to learn that there’s a correspondingly high chance of burnout in the dog business world.
It’s not at all surprising when you look at it.
You started out because you wanted to spend all day frolicking in the sunshine with dogs! Training them; grooming them; massaging them …
Balancing books, paying bills, employing people - perhaps none of these were on your list of fun things to do!
And, for many people, you can add marketing to that column.
But the fact is, that unless you have something of a grasp on business and marketing, your cherished dog business is not going to be sustainable.
There are many possible solutions to making this all work for you. It may involve employing other people to fulfil the roles that you don’t like. While you’re out in the fresh air working with dogs, someone else can be bent over the laptop running the show.
However, when you start out, there’s unlikely to be spare cash available for this luxury. So you have to do it yourself.
A mixed blessing
And this is a mixed blessing! It’s so much better that you know what you’re doing before asking anyone else to do it for you. Some experience with the tasks you’re not mad about will stand you in good stead when you’re in a position to get paid help in.
There’s so much you need to master to make your business a success! And I’d love to help you with this. While I’m not a business coach, I am a performance coach - a transitions coach - and I can help you find out what’s standing in your way of achieving what you want with your business, whether it’s that
❤️ freedom to work where you want when you want
❤️ freedom to choose who you work with
❤️ and ability to manage your own income
or anything else you want it to be!
