Doing what you love all day long
What could be better than doing what you love
ALL
DAY
LONG?
And yet … how many of us are caught up in some sort of Puritan work ethic that means we must not enjoy ourselves?
• That enjoying ourselves is somehow self-serving?
• That enjoying ourselves means we’re not serious?
Hands up anyone who has ever thought that!
But what could be better than doing what we love All Day Long?
Wouldn’t that be the best expression of our individual gifts? Giving to the world what we excel at?
And by the same token, if there’s something you’re really good at, do you see that by NOT devoting your time doing it, you are depriving the world of your gifts?
Food for thought!
When you have a thought, try turning it right round and looking at it from another angle.
“I want to do what I love all day long.”
Whyever not?
While we may pay lip-service to this idea, if you look deeper inside you may find that there is some sort of guilty resistance to it.
Perhaps your father laboured long hours in a shipyard till he was worn out?
Perhaps your mother would love to have been a doctor, but it was not acceptable in her family for a woman to do that?
And so you feel it would be self-indulgent of you to launch into a life of doing what you love, all day long, as you’d be letting them down?
Sounds batty?
Yup. But we can have some pretty batty ideas sometimes, which we let run without question!
Is this what’s holding you back?
Be honest. Have a look at WHY you aren’t doing the thing you so desperately want to do.
You may dress it up as “not enough time”, “not enough money”, and all the rest of the excuses we come up with.
But in fact, is it something deeper?
Is the only thing holding you back a faulty perception?
