Resilience 2

I was talking about “The Obstacles are the Path” the other week.

And I thought it would be helpful to give you an illustration of what I mean.

I knew I wanted to help people change their lives. I felt I had a message. I'd gone through a lot and I wanted to smooth the path for others.

But to reach people, I had to step RIGHT outside my comfort zone!

I’m not an extrovert! Dancing about in front of a camera is really not my thing. I tend to be the one lurking in the background in group photos, not the one leaping about at the front waving their arms, frantically trying to be seen.

And this reluctance to push myself forward made me doubt myself.

  • Did I really have anything to offer others?

  • If I can’t get up on my hind legs at the drop of a hat and start talking, do I really have anything to say?

… and of course, as we all know, this leads to thoughts of “Who am I to think I can …?” NOT helpful!

Do you relate to this? (Say ME TOO! in the comments.)

So I had to do a bit of work on myself! Well, a lot of work, actually. I had to decide if I DID have something to offer.

And after much reflection, I decided I did! 😊

How to move forward?

So now, all I had to do was identify what was stopping me imparting whatever wisdom I could to others! Whatever it was, it was fixable.

And I realised that not appearing on camera was actually performing a disservice to those I wanted to reach.

It was a form of vanity (or self-preservation, if you like!).

Whatever it was, it was helping neither me nor you. So I set about learning how to get online and speak! Speak from the heart. Say what I wanted to say, without worrying what people would think.

In this case, the thought of public speaking, of appearing on camera, was a b-i-i-i-g obstacle to me reaching the people I wanted to help.

It was only when I saw with clarity that this obstacle was a clear indication of WHERE I needed to put my focus, where I needed to go, that I was able to start reaching the people I have since been able to help.

What obstacles do you see in *your* path, that you can re-evaluate as an indication that this IS your path?

Tell us in the comments below, of any AHA moments in your life that you now see can change your path for good!
