The time isn’t right

How many times have you had a great idea?

You’ve loved it, nurtured it, imagined it.

You’ve got excited about it, you’re feeling it, you’re looking forward to it …

Then you stop yourself.

Your lovely imaginative, creative, brain is shut down by your rational killjoy brain.

“What if it’s too soon?”

“What if it’s too late?”

“What if I’m too old / young / clever / stupid …?”

And you park yourself. Just exactly where you are.

And abandon your dream.

The dream you were so excited about a few moments before!

Why do we do this?

You are not the first person this has happened to, and you won’t be the last.

We are brought up to be careful, be cautious: “Mind, that’s hot!” … “Be careful or you’ll fall!”

And who, of the great explorers, great inventors, great artists, were ever careful or cautious?!

You see,

Procrastination is the fear of failure

You’re putting off what you really want to do, for fear that it may go wrong. You may be disappointed. People (shock, horror!) may laugh at you!

You come up with all sorts of reasons why it would be better not to pursue this idea now.

“Yeah,” you say, “when the children have started school / left school.”

“When I’m not so tired.”

“When I have more money.”

“When the planets align.”

These are all EXCUSES! They’re all ways of making you put off doing what you want, and stay in your box.

Where you’ll sit, peeping over the edge at those who are making hay (whether or not the sun is shining), and regretting that you missed your chance.

Don’t let that happen to you!

The fact is that the time is never right. You have to grab the time and make it right.

Your ideas, your yearnings, are worth your attention. And they’re just as important as anyone else’s ideas. In fact, for you, they’re THE most important thing!

Do you really want to follow up this idea of yours? This mad, crazy idea you think you’re not good enough to pursue?

Then do it! Don’t take No for an answer, from your rational, fearful, brain - or from anyone else.
