“I don’t know what else I can do”

You aren’t stuck! You need to know - and recognise! - that you have choices in life and it’s up to you to take them, so that you can do whatever you want to do, and map out your future with courage and faith.

It was quite a long time ago that I realised I was stuck in the wrong place. Not necessarily the wrong place geographically! But the wrong place in my life. It wasn’t terrible. I wasn’t suffering badly. But it was the wrong place nevertheless.

I had started out with such plans!

And those plans had gradually got derailed. I began to think that if I couldn’t follow through with those plans, then there was nothing else left to me.

It took many long walks (my medicine of choice! as readers of my novels will recognise) and much self-talking-to, to see that I could actually take a completely different path from the one I had first envisaged, and still be satisfied and happy.

I set about making this new life for myself, and discovered so much joy and fulfilment on the way!

What you need to suss out

As I see it, you’ve got three options.

One is to stay stuck where you are, bemoaning the fact that it’s not the right place for you.

And there are advantages to this!

This way you don’t rock the boat. Life will continue much as it is. Your early dreams and aspirations will stay just that - dreams.

This could work for you, as you don’t have to look too closely at what is causing the dissatisfaction in your life.

But maybe you’d prefer this option:

•    You can dip your toe in the water.

•   You can identify the new skills you’ll need for your new ideas.

•   You can start investigating programs and courses to learn new skills

•   You can start to mix with people who understand these aspirations of yours!

In my coaching programs, I guide people to seeing whether they have a business idea that will fly, and start working towards it.

But this is the best option!

You can do what I did.

You can make some firm decisions on what you really want! And then you can decide whether your present situation is sustainable.

You can take yourself by the scruff of the neck and get moving to your new future, where you can follow your own path and bring your unique gifts to the world.

And that’s where coaching focuses you on what you really want, and how to singlemindedly get it. Then you can cut out the flannel and get moving!

Next step!

Now that you’ve chosen what course of action you want to take, there’s still a lot to do!

You see, I realised that the choices I had made up to then had fashioned my life. It wasn’t outside circumstances that dictated my life!

I had thought that I was a victim of circumstance. That I’d made my bed and must lie on it.

But it was only when I thrashed it out in my mind that I saw that in fact it had always been me making the decisions.

Even if the decision was almost made for me, I’d felt I had to go along with it, and going against it would be very hard.

When it came down to it I made the decision. There was no-one else to point the finger at!

But it isn’t always that easy to do!

As Randy Gage said,

“There was always one person present at the scene of the crime. And that person was me.”

You need four things to make this dramatic move in your life -

1. You need powerful motivation to get you started

2. You need an authentic idea that aligns with your values - not mine, your partner’s, or anyone else’s!

3. You need proven methods to work out what is really valuable to you.

4. And you need a disciplined process to work through to get you there!

It’s not an easy path!

But is it worth it? Hell yeah!
