It’s all too much, I’m overwhelmed!
I was talking to someone recently who told me they had LOADS of ideas. They had even started to work out a plan to get them where they wanted to be - but they would start the day all enthusiastic … then come down with a crash when they realised they didn’t know what to do!
They were overwhelmed. It all seemed too much - and you know what we do when we’re overwhelmed?
We drown!
This person was close to (metaphorically) drowning - she was exhausted. She was continually going round in circles and didn’t seem to be getting any further ahead.
Do you know how that feels?
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the task ahead of you?
Can you understand where this person was coming from?
I used to flounder about too. Yep. That was me! All over the place, I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t know what order to do it!
I did loadsa research - books, Google, Youtube … you name it, I’d read or watched it. But it was all disjointed - masses of bits of information but NO directions. Like, if someone tipped a whole load of ingredients on to your kitchen worktop with no recipe or measurements! You may have a vague idea what the dish would be but no idea how to make it work!
And isn’t this just what students in my Brilliant Family Dog Trainer Business Program are finding? That once they know exactly what they need to do, and when to do it, they can build their Dog Training School successfully!
If you’re confronted by a tidal wave of STUFF coming at you - stuff you need to do - and no road map or recipe card to help you, it’s no wonder you can feel overwhelmed!
But I’ve found the answer is to break things down into baby steps and take everything step by step by step.
Don’t jump about!
You need to work on A before you can race forward to K!
You need to master B before lurching into C and D!
Many of my clients arrive just clinging on to their dream. They’re hanging on by their fingernails - and they are so disappointed! They feel they just can’t get it right, and that this carries some deep meaning! The meaning they take from it is that they’re JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
But this is entirely in their own mind!
Often they have already proved beyond a doubt that they are capable. They’re the right person for the job, and this is something they can absolutely do. But if it’s all coming at them like relentless snowflakes tumbling from a darkening sky - that’s when they can feel swamped.
Do you get this? That it’s all a matter of how you look at it? That it’s a matter of perception. The thing is if you’re able to think of your idea you can do it.
“What the mind can conceive and believe, you can achieve”
So said Norman Vincent Peale. And he knew what he was talking about! Having learnt from the greatest achievers of his day. And keeping that quote firmly in the front of your mind, I want you to shift your perception from “I’ll never be able to do this.” to “Yes! This I can do!”
Hard to imagine? Next week I’ll be giving you the Road Map!
