What do you really enjoy?
Today I want you to focus on your good points.
Yes - you have good points!
We all have good points. Sometimes they get a bit buried in the hustle and bustle of daily life, but they are there, and you want to be sure to give them expression as often as you can.
It’s your good points that make you of value to the world.
I’m often told by people who feel lost that they have nothing to offer, Nothing to give.
Oh no! Nothing could be further from the truth.
We all have something to offer!
So I want you to look back at your life so far and see the things you have achieved.
And … I can hear some of you thinking “I’ve achieved nothing” - and you KNOW that’s not true! m
Maybe you haven’t done the things you thought you might when you were young and full of optimism.
Maybe you’ve been focussing on rearing the next generation,
Maybe you’ve been helping someone else with their project, and now you want to breathe life into a project of your own.
Whatever you’ve been doing all these years, you’ve done something!
Do you see where you may be short-changing yourself?
It’s one of the things my Design your Future clients work on - to learn how to look at their situation realistically so they can recognise their own gifts and bring them to the fore - and recognising your achievements so far is essential to being able to have more achievements in the future.
False modesty is not attractive!
Telling yourself you haven’t earned your place in the world is not attractive!
What IS attractive
is someone who knows their purpose! Someone who has a plan - a short-term plan or a long-term plan,
But a plan of what they’re going to do with this one precious life of theirs. We can’t be all things to all men, but we can find what WE are good at and fill our little corner of the world with joy!
Are you up for more joy in the world? Put JOY in the comments if you’re ready to work on where you are right now to bring joy.
This is why I LOVE working as a Transition Coach - I see people realising that they can move from a negative way of thinking into a positive one, with the enormous results this brings! There can be a tendency to down-play what we’re good at … back to that false modesty I mentioned.
It serves no-one!
Hiding your light under a proverbial bushel does not help you, and it does not help the people you’re here to serve - the people you can teach, who you can show a better way, the people who can benefit from your skills.
Often we hold ourselves back through fear.
😨 Fear of the unknown,
😨 Fear of looking foolish
😨 Fear of failure
And also, perversely!
😨 Fear of success!
Do you know that hackneyed mnemonic for Fear? “False Evidence Appearing Real”
So often our fears are groundless - we’re born with TWO fears.
Just TWO:
👉 Fear of falling, and fear of loud noises.
They use those in the APGAR tests for newborns to check their neurological responses.
😨 Fear of falling
😨 Fear of loud noises.
That’s all!
ALL the other fears we have made up ourselves!
And something we made up is holding us back from being fully ourselves, and bringing to the world what only we can provide.
How daft is that?!
Have you ever wondered WHY others get things done and you just seem to watch in awe while you tread water? Could this be it?
And isn’t this just what students in my Brilliant Family Dog Trainer Business Program are finding? That accommodating their fears, their feelings of inadequacy, their Impostor Syndrome - is not helping the owners and dogs they are committed to helping!
Cast aside your fears!
So it’s time to put aside those fears - those fears that we’ve made up! And start putting yourself out there.
No-one will ever know what you can do, what gifts you have, until you show them!
YOU know what you can do.
YOU know what you’re worth, deep down.
But you may wonder why things don’t seem to be working out for you.
You try things … then other things get in the way … and you’re back where you started! Sometimes it’s a chaotic approach to systems and organisation that trips you up.
Sometimes it’s those danged fears!
Sometimes it’s a deep-seated belief that whatever you do will never be good enough.
I’m not a therapist, but can you see how this may have sprung from some childhood experience where you were made to feel ashamed?
Bad things can happen, but they don’t have to colour the rest of our lives.
Now as a coach I don’t look back too much, I look forward! And I’m happy to have seen fantastic results with clients who were completely stuck in the mud!
People who are now achieving their dreams - and they’re so glad they decided to get the help a coach can give them! Fancy giving it a whirl? And finding out what it can do for you?
