What is perfectionism, really?

Have you ever made something, looked at it critically and then said, “Nah, not good enough … I just need to change this, Adjust that … re-do this bit …?”

Is that you?

If so, you can say, “I am a recovering perfectionist!”

No, don’t worry, I don’t expect you to own up to that YET! But just supposing that’s you.

That you do something, work at something, then think it’s not good enough and can’t be released to the world just yet.

What is the result? simply put - it doesn’t happen. Your cherished THiNG - the thing you’ve been working on for so long - stays in a drawer, locked in your laptop, hidden from the world.

Your project that you were so excited about stays hidden. NO-ONE gets to benefit from it, from all your wisdom, your experience, your knowledge.

How sad is that? And who’s missing out here? Everyone! Everyone who could benefit from what you do!

Shy?

It’s natural for many of us to feel shy about showing our work.

Why? Who knows and who cares?

It’s a feeling of insufficiency you’ve picked up somewhere along the line, and it doesn’t really matter where it velcro-ed itself to you - as long as you can now peel it off! Be done with it!

You have gifts - now, don’t say you haven’t! - we all have gifts.

My gifts will suit some people and not others, and your gifts will suit some people and not others.

We are not Everyman! no-one is.

But we all have something to offer, and I’m going to talk to you in the next post about just how you can change these crippling thoughts of insufficiency you’re entertaining, and get your gifts out there into the world!

See you next week!
